The Big Drink
The Big Drink
Elephants at the Chobe River on the Northern border of Botswana. Namibia is on the other side of the river.
The elephants have to come down to the river every day to drink and every day they then have to return to where they can eat. At different times of the year this can be near or far. When we were there they had to walk all the way back to the other side of the tarred road which seemed like 6 to 7 miles. It is very hard for the little ones and often they don't survive.

Both are gorgeous Kate!! I do like the composition of the second one better, however (a little too much empty sky in the first one, which could be easily cropped out). But what a wonderful capture of these majestic animals!!

Thanks so much everyone for enjoying my elephants. I have very much enjoyed going back over them. I will get around to featuring other animals we saw after catching up with more current pictures.

Both are great images Kate ~ I agree with Goshka on liking the second one best ~ although I agree it is hard to choose! You may want to submit the second one later otherwise it won't be counted in the competition!
Sad about the baby elephants ~ nature can be so harsh on wild animals.

Thanks Susan ~ maybe I'll just sneek that one in today though I don't really think it is up to winning anything when you see the standard of the winners. However you never know!!
