Oh my goodness! Thank you EVERYONE for your thoughtful and kind comments. I took this one day when I dropped my car off to get the oil changed and walked around the neighborhood til my car was ready. Came across this unbelievable garden and voila! You just never know where or when you'll find that amazing shot. And, Dolores, from your "mouth" to the judges "ears"!!! Again, thank you all so much.

Joy, did you use a 100mm macro for this image? Gimme all the details, please...

Well, Jim - I used my Nikon Coolpix 800!!! No macro, just zoomed in! Don't know what else you need to know? Sorry, it's not more technical or detailed. Saw it, liked it, zoomed it in, shot it!!! Don't know any of the other info because I usually don't keep track. Probably not the answer you were hoping for!

LOL! Joy, you aren't supposed to admit any of that! OK, all month I have been thinking that I need a better macro lense. I have a 80-210 and it just isn't getting close at all. Maybe what I need to invest in is a good digital. That just blows me away that you got so close with out any major zoom.

Hi Margaret. I love my digital camera (now have the Nikon 5700). Have sold my slr and all equipment. If you get one, you'll love it!

Margaret, I too was frustrated with the limitations of my telephoto zoom. If you can save up, I highly recommend a 100mm Macro lens. You might also be able to get extension tubes or close-up filters but the actual macro lens seems to work the best. The 100mm allows me to get in super close.

Of course, like Joy, you can also often get in very close with various digital cameras and their built in macro modes.
