...weekend fun... ...at the Iron Rock Raceway... ...shot midday,...cropped out minor clutter on the left, replaced the airport buildings in the background and applied the rgb-lighting... I received a couple of emails asking for more info today, 06/16/05. I will be adding this info in the comment area below. I thank you for coming by and viewing this.

I'm adding the following to answer some emails I received today: I hope this will be helpful to some:DISCLAIMER: My PS skill is only on the beginning level. I have no special training but learned by viewing and reading other photographers' work. First, I cropped the small part on the left, then resize to the desired dimension. Cropping in this case was not really necessary but since the center of attention is the driver I eliminated some space around him. Secondly, cloning out the sky and the buildings/poles/wires in the background: I believe I tried a couple of methods on this. - One was the magic wand or lasso tool and edit/fill to fill out most of the area with the black background color, and clone tool to fill out the detailed area. - The other was a new frame of the black color with the same dimension as the photo, overlayed the photo on top of the new frame, and use the history brush to expose the black background. (I believe, I ended up using the new layer method on this particular image.) Along the line of the racetrack border and the driver's helmet, you will have to enlarge the image large enough to be able to be very precise. It's like, everyone remembers as a child, coloring an area with a crayon and trying not to draw over and beyond the line. So, if you enlarge the image, in some cases, up to 300%, cloning can be done fairly easily. Finally, the lighting: I used the lighting effects from the render filter in PS. and select RGB option and the spotlighting tool. This is a fun part and just to add gimmick to the image, I suppose.... but if it's done nicely, it can look good. And I was hoping I accomplished the intent.
