This is another shot of one of my little cousins I took last weekend. It was overexposed unintentionally. However, the expression on her face was so wonderful, I decided to work with it. This is what I ended up with.

Thank you so much Brinn, Liza, Melissa, Carla, Mary, Tammy, Kara, Lori, & Laurence for those wonderful comments. I'm so pleased you all liked it.

Lori, the first thing I did was shoot in very bright sunlight, which made it hard to check my LCD screen. So on my screen it looked ok, from what I could tell. My settings were shutter @1/500, and F4. It should have been at about F10! Anyway, after that I did auto levels on it. Which brought back some detail in the face and hair. Then I used a midnight sepia action on it, and adjusted the hue and saturation till I was pleased. Same with the contrast, just adjusted it till it was where I liked it. Then I sharpened the eyes, whitened the whites of eyes, cropped it, and then converted it to black & white. I also burned her lips in a little bit, so they would show up more. I think that's about it. I hope that inspires you to try something similar!

Wonderful work in making the best out of an image that may otherwise have ended with a push of the "delete" button. So often I'm tempted to throw things like this away, but you turned this into a beautiful piece of work. Nice job. ~Jacquie :)
