f/22 @ 4 sec; ISO 100; Canon 17-85mm @ 20mm; tripod. Taken in St. Louis Canyon at Starved Rock State Park near Utica, IL. The canyons at Starved Rock have waterfalls in late winter, early spring, so you have to be there at the right time to photograph them.

Pat,

Very nicely done! The shaft of light adds a great touch. How long did it take you to figure out what the right time of day (and season, presumably) would be?

Thanks, John. The light is actually coming from the top of the canyon wall. And that is the waterfall coming down, but because of the long shutter speed, it is very cloudy and soft. You want to know how long it took to figure out when to go....well, it was by accident!! We just went and hoped to find a waterfall!! :) Because the canyons are deep and very shaded, it is best to shoot them in the middle of the afternoon, providing you leave out the bright tops of the canyon walls.
