Marthie L. Bredenkamp     I love this photo. Your white is so white and your black so black. It is very good. I see you use a digital camera. How did you take the shot to get it so sharp and bright.

Marthie,
Thank you for your compliment. This scene actually lent itself quite nicely to the black/white contrast. The stairs he is climbing were black and under the shade of a portico. But since it was a bright afternoon, there was plenty of light to make his white garment stand out.
I used a 70-200mm zoom lens, zoomed at 200mm to capture this. I was actually photographing something else when I saw him out of the corner of my eye. He was moving quite quickly, so I only had a chance to get two shots. The shutter speed was a relatively fast 1/180, so I was pleased to actually see the motion of his climbing the stairs versus having just frozen the action. Sometimes, things just work out.
The sharpness is thanks to the quick autofocus of the lens.
