Open Bridge - self portrait
In pool there are two standard ways to bridge the cue, the open and closed bridge. I perfer the open bridge where the thumb forms a V for the cue to ride in. In the closed bridge the index finger wraps around the cue and the cue slides thru the circle formed by the finger. Please comment or critique, Thanks!!

Great capture and presentation, Donald. As an 'old' pool shark, I always found that the closed bridge gives more stability and control. Very well done, my dear friend - your good friend, Allan

Thanks so much, Rob, Allan, Sanjay and Marcie. Allan, I agree somewhat that the closed bridge is more stable, but it's hard to change what has worked well for over 30 years. Seems that most professional 9-ball players use the closed bridge, while I've noticed that many of the European's who grew up playing snooker use some form of the open bridge. Thank you Sanjay for such a wonderful comment...I really hope you are right!!

Great lighting and cool compo. Here's a little something about "bridges." I have a tape (and was there when the tape was made) of Torbjorn Blomdahl, the multi-time 3-cushion world champion from Sweden. He uses both for different reasons. The closed, or loop, bridge is more solid and stable and is usually better for 3-cushion play where the cue ball must be hit fairly firmly. On "touch" shots, however, he sometimes goes to the open bridge to reduce friction to an absolute minimum. I've tried it and it works beautifully! Mike Brodie PS 3-cushion rocks!
