Shot in the studio with 2 monoblocs, 1 with softbox. I'm still short a 3rd strobe so the background lighting is performed in Photoshop. Desaturated, subtle softening toward the edges, and apologies to my daughter Storm for losing that lovely red lipstick ;-)

When she turns 18, you want a son-in-law from America?

Thanks Jill and Casey. Even Storm, who is soooo tired of being photographed, liked it!

:-) You wish Josh! She has turned 18 but your issue will be getting past the grumpy old retired Army Warrant Officer standing at the door - Especially whilst your still in Navy clothing mate ;-)

I'll take your remarks as very flattering and pass them on.

regards, Graham

Yet another great photo, Graham. May I ask how you added the background lighting? Thanks!

Hello Nicole, good to see you still prowling around :-) Rather than give a long winded explanation here I have created a PDF that describes the technique for you. The result of the example used in the PDF doc has been posted and you will find the original of the picture and a link to the document in the discussion area here:

Hope this works out for you.

regards, Graham

This is outstanding!!! You are becoming a master of wonderful portraits!!
I am very grateful for your explanation! I was looking since a long while on the net for this technique as I had no idea of how to do it and saw some amazing photos using this. So, I have no words to thank you.
In the meanwhile I love the work you have been doing with your daughter, I also print an explanation you had given some time ago about diffuse glow and soft skin.
I am myself begining to make portraits of my friends and was really wanting to get this kind of information. Thank you so very much!!!
Regards from Portugal, Su

Thank you Susana, coming from one who has posted so many wonderful pictures from Portugal your words of encouragement are really appreciated.
I only wish that my repetoire of shots were as varied as yours. I must try to get out of the studio more often :-)

regards, Graham

Thanks for the kind words Donna. I'm very pleased that you like them. Through the encouragement I've received from this site I've decided to push to make this a paying hobby. So to all all of you - thanks.

regards, Graham
