March is Red Cross Month

  March is Red Cross Month
March is Red Cross Month

And Happy T~K~W (and April Fool's) Day!
-----
The Delaware River Port Authority had vowed to have the bridge lit RED for the entire month. They tried, but all sorts of calamitous situations interfered with the RED lighting and on two of the nights I was asked to "get the shot," I ended up on a 60-mile round trip "Wild Goose Chase."
----
Last night was the last possible night , and I was willing to try again, but I wanted some assurance that the bridge would be red. The Philly Chapter's Communications Director got on the phone early in the morning, and by 4 pm he had an answer. YES! But REALLY YES this time. And this time,, another stalwart volunteer had custody of a Red Cross vehicle and she was to be our model.
-----
Well, there WERE red lights this time, but they didn't STAY red; rather the colors cycled through several color combinations until they finally glowed red and we took this shot.

I am lucky to have a former colleague who lives in a high-rise apartment building on the waterfront. She was able to get me access to their private pier (where THIS was shot) even though she was out of town. We also crossed the bridge to Camden, NJ, and got a few shots there , and then to a public pier back in Philly. It was nearly midnight by then, and guards were locking the gates leading to the pier. But when the guard saw that we were shooting for the Red Cross, he suggested and allowed us to drive the Red Cross vehicle up onto the sidewalk, right in front of the bridge's main span.   It seems that a whole lot of people went though a whole lot of work to try to get this dedication right, but it payed off in the long run. The way things go sometimes. At least for you, you got yourself one beautiful picture here. Having that person there with the red cross shirt adds that special touch. Beautifully done Michelle.

Excellent image and reporting as always.

Sounded like red tape with the red lights for the Red Cross?! Ha!

What a hassle. I'm happy you finally got your VICTORY image! The Red Cross lady mascot was a real bonus to the symbolism here in your amazing image as well! Bravo! Timing and placement is, after all, everything! :D

Patience and persistence are tools a lot of photographers forget that are required "To get the shot" We make our photographs they are not snapshots. You are a great photographer and this capture is a testament to that. Perfection Michelle.
