There were several comments and questions about the Amish scooter in a previous post, so I thought I'd try to explain some things about them.
In the Amish community, the local bishop is the spiritual leader.
He decides what behavior is appropriate for the group.
Things like modesty, shunning electricity and observing the Sabbath are well understood.
The bishop, however, controls much more than that.

In this case, the bishop has decided that bicycles are too technologically advanced, require too little effort, and that the riders travel too far too fast on them.
Therefore, bicycles are forbidden, while these scooters may be used.

I can't imagine their lifestyle, but I'm envious of its simplicity. Super shot, Bill.

Wow - this is just great, Bill! We live within spitting distance of the 4th largest Amish community in the world (Geauga County, Ohio), and as you explain, their lifestyle is, well, a bit different!

They ARE wonderful people, but kinda glad I'm not one! This is a super capture and see you also observe not showing their face as they don't like that because it is the window to their soul!

I also hope we see this again, it is SPECIAL as are you Bill

The Amish simplicity contrasts with the complexity of our fast paced and technical world. This is an amazing capture Bill and thanks for the info.

Well, thanks, Bill, for the explanation. I thought a previous image was of a bike with really small wheels, and now I see what's going on. Ah, those flags are necessary to warn motorists I see. Strange juxtaposition of cultures and probably difficulties arise all the time.

Great info to go along with this exceptional story-telling capture, Bill. Good luck, my friend.
I respect their religion and parts of their lifestyle, however, don't think I could be a practicing member.Hope you have a winner here.
