And now for something a little different...for me, anyway! This is a close-up of Buddy Holly's Gibson J-45 with Tooled Leather Cover, ca. 1944. In fact, Buddy tooled his own cover which included three titles of his 1956 hits. Taken at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, Indianapolis at their Guitars! Roundups to Rockers" exhibit. Another shot is in the discussion.

Another shot of the guitar in color. It was really a work of art. The entire exhibit was very fascinating but very challenging to shoot since no tripods were allowed and all guitars were enclosed in plexiglass display cases so reflections were a real problem. But we had fun!

I was at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa on the night that Buddy, Richie and the Big Bopper were killed in a plane crash. We were told about the crash the next morning in our high school home room. I still have their obituaries out of the Mason City Globe Gazette. I had a 45 rpm record, signed by Buddy, but somebody stole it before I ever left the Surf. Nobody knew he would become a legend. We saw a lot of the early rock stars at the Surf. It was an interesting time to be a kid.

I bet that was a great exhibit to go see. I know how tough these museums are to get any decent shots but you got a couple of great captures here. Super tones and detail Rona! Sunny but staying around the freezing point today. A lot warmer tomorrow, yea!!
