Goodness, Lady Liberty sure gets around! I like this shot, with the bridge in the background. My only critique is I wish we could see her face. :)

Beautiful sky and great DOF Dale. I join Teresa in wising the face were visible and I also would add just a touch more space above the torch.

Thanks everyone. I agree with the face but the lighting didn't support it and the distance I had to set my tripod, didn't allow more space at the top.

Here is another POV.

Very well done, Dale.

Just for interest and perhaps instruction for others, Dale...you shot this at 18 mm wide angle? Did you apply any skew/distortion to reduce the perspective fall-off or did you actually manage to be level with the statue?

Very nice Dale, I agree with the space at the top but do like the face as is. But than again, I always tend to say yes with others say no ;)

Stephen, I was able to get level with the statue but did use just a tiny bit of distortion in PSE to correct the two buildings on either side of the shot.

I was on a boardwalk that led from a third level walkway. Had a bit of a problem though, because whenever someone took even one step on the boardwalk, the tripod moved. Had to time the shot to the traffic. Took four attempts.

I actually like that you can't see her face and that there are lit details everywhere else....gives a bit of mystery and suspense to the image that goes along nicely with the rather dramatic sky. I agree a touch more space at the top would work well. :~) Overall I really like this one!

Oh good lord Dale, I thought you were having one of your moments. I was thinking it was the Statue of Liberty with Brooklyn bridge in the background.
Beautiful colors and I'm fine with the face in the shadows too.
Do you have any idea why the Japanese would copy the statue? I found plenty about the Rainbow bridge but not the statue.

Not sure why the statue was build but did find a site that showed the vantage point where I took the photo. Also has lots of info about the location.

We only traveled to the island to get the twilight Rainbow bridge shot, so did not have time to explore the entire area. The island alone would take a day to see all the sights and I only had 8 days in Japan.

Here is the link.

Now, Dale, can I believe my ears? You are letting a little thing like where you had to place your tripod keep you from having more space above the torch?

Right Jeff. I was so close, that in order to get the entire statue, I had no more room with the lens I had.

But now that I think about it, I'm sure you're refering to adding what ever I need, right? Yep, could do that. :o)

do your magic make this a better shot. I love your second one even more. I do wonder why they have Lady Liberty?

I like the colors of the first one the best and the way the light is on her. I also like the second one the way the light is on her, but like the blues in the first one the best.
I think you can fix the more space issue.
Was she visiting on vacation there also?

By the way, all those boats with the bright lights are dinner cruise boats.

Good job adding the space Dale. Looks good though it may be just a touch to much - see what others think.

I like the unlit face in the first shot, and the edit with more space on top. I'm not clear why countries put up copies of other countries' landmarks...there's a small Eiffel tower near my house here in China and it seems so out of place

Lisa, I think it is in honor of the artists work. And in some cases, such as the Statue of Liberty, perhaps in recongnition for what it stands for. Who knows?

I think the first shot was made much better with the extra sky and I like the second one, too. I don't think that was there when we were her, but then that was 1978-1981 when we lived au Yokota AFB right outside of Tokyo. I would go bac Ina heartbeat!

thanks Debbie. I'm seriously thinking of going back while my niece is still stationed there.

You're right about the area. It was not there when you were there. The island was, but not all the improvements. See the link above.
