The Rhythm of the Drum
Drums play an important part in many Pow Wows, tribal ceremonies, celebrations and spiritual festivals. Through many songs and dances to the beats of the drum, the Native people try and find a close spiritual relationship with the creator.
A dancer's regalia (outfit) is created by the dancer or a respected family member or friend. Pieces are often family heirlooms. The feathers are sacred and highly valued and cared for.
This aboriginal man performed a dance and then chanted and beat the drum to accompany other performers at the Pow Wow.

Excellent timing on this portrait!! Well done Heather!
My maternal grandmother was Ojibway and I had cousins that used to dance in Pow Wows when we were kids.Hope all is well with you. We are melting out here but hopefully it will start to cool down next week.

It was a fascinating read about the drum and its importance with in the Native American culture. We have a place nearby that has a museum of art from them. Such a clear and colorful picture here and you caught the action and the meaning in your work here my friend.
