Winter Gum Leaf.
  Winter Gum Leaf.
Winter Gum Leaf.
I found this growing in my back yard. I haven’t got a clue as to what the eggs will hatch into, possible some hairy caterpillar that will chew on my tomatoes!
Captured at 1/25th f16.0 and ISO-250.

I don't know either John, but most of our gums have got them! Love the design this has left against the bright green of the leaf!

I love the contrasting color here, John against the bark of the tree! Terrific close-up! I hope whatever they are they are allergic to tomatoes!

You will certainly find out all in good time. Superb capture John. Our 4.8 wouldn't probably make the news. We consider them aftershocks over here, not earthquakes.

Fine light, textures, color and detail in this interesting find, John! Let's be optimistic...maybe they will be ladybugs which will eat any aphids on your tomatoes!

Looks like rust to me, John. We get it badly on hollyhocks & other mallows & also roses. Nice image tho!

Thank you for all your comments and thoughts on this image!
I visited the local nursery yesterday and they identified the growth as being Coccid Wasp Gall. They appear to attack only the new young leaves on a tree, and cause no serious damage to the tree!

I was going to say that is probably a wasp as most galls in leaves and stems of gums are but then I saw that you have already identified it.
Lovely light.
