We teach them it's OK to think outside the box...but they LOVE playing inside the box.

This image makes me smile. I have so many pictures of my boys playing inside boxes. :)

It's a fun image, and he looks like he's having fun. There appears to be some noise or grain on the box. Also I'd completely black out the background, or open it up. The few streaks over his shoulder are a bit distracting. I'll bet he played in there for quite a while. :)

I think there are a couple technical issues here including the grain that Teresa mention and I also think the lighting is harsh...but those things don't detract from the cuteness factor one bit..

I agree. It's a truly delightful picture that will be adored by the family. Wouldn't hurt to open the shadows and clear up technical issues though.

its funny how a box can keep them busy for a long time. I agree with teresa on the streaks over the shoulder, the grain on the box doesn't bother me.... flash is a little strong but I don't know how you could have gotten around it. I think your flash didn't give any blown out area. so I applaud you for that.

Yup, why waste money on an expensive gift? A pile of boxes and a roll of duct tape can provide hours of entertainment!

Sue -- Yes - this is a perfect way to "frame" a busy little boy. I agree with opening up the shadows a bit but you certainly did create a unique image for parents who are sure to be happy with this one.

Great concept and I love the tilt.

Very harsh lighting from the flash. Are you using a diffuser?

I think this is one I would re-shoot if I could simply because of the lighting, but if you can not, a reduction in contrast will help a bit along with the other suggestions.

This is so cute...I just love when kids use their imagination and play with simple things. As others have said you could do so many different things in the future to get better lighting, but I know you did not have this all set up as a shoot. It is a capture of the moment in time. I don't find any of the elements distracting....can easily bring my focus to the boy, but you can do some things in PS to smooth the grain and remove lines. If you want to make it more like a studio portrait there are many things you can do with the lighting in the future, but I think it's a great capture. :~)

Lol, what a cute image. Has me smiling. My kids loved boxes, too.
I admire how you've framed and cropped this image. The slips of black triangular b/g are a delightful way to frame the square of the box and draw your eye into the image and to that adorable little man. Love it.

Thanks guys, I won't be editing to much on this one. This is my grandson, Josh. Aimee is right a capture of the moment. This was done in my living room with an on camera flash( hence, harsh lighting). I was actually in the box with him just before I grabbed the camera:) Of course didn't save the layers when editing and saved in JPEG. But you did give me a great idea of having a birthday party shoot in the studio with some little ones and use proper lighting. I didn't notice the lines Teresa mentioned until pointed out, but I kind of like the grain in the box, too me it adds a cardboard texture.
