Snowbird, The Next Day
Snowbird, The Next Day

The other day I posted a daytime shot of this scene into my gallery. I decided to go back the next evening and take the last tram up to the 11,000 ft peak at Snowbird Lodge in Utah. I had a few things going against me: no tripod, no graduated ND filters, and the tram was leaving FOUR minutes before the sun would hit the horizon, which was the shot I had hoped to get. Nonetheless, I did get to witness another glorious sunset from our Creator. To get the shot, I auto-bracketed and took three handheld shots as steady as I could, all at f/8, ISO 640, with my 16-35mm Canon lens set at about 25mm. The three images were too bright at first, so I had t roll the three-image bracket set down all the way EV-wise to get one image where the sky wasn't blown out.

Your description was cut off, but I get the gist. It all worked out beautifully, Paul.

Thanks Michelle, I shortened the description to fit. The text field apparently lets you write more than what gets displayed. Guess I shouldn't be so long-winded, lol. But I appreciate your comments!

Thanks Ruth! I wasn't sure this one was even going to work when I had to shoot handheld for HDR, but I think it turned out OK. :::whew!:::
