Robber Fly with Prey

Robber Fly with Prey
Robber Fly with Prey

I am experimenting with a little higher magnification in this shot.
I am using my Canon 100mm 1:2.8 macro with a 12mm extension tube and my Canon Extender EF 1.4x II.
The extension tube is between the lens and the 1.4x extender so that the lenses do not touch.
The auto-focus does not work well with this combination so this was manually focused.
Handheld.

Awesome detailed image Mike! I am rather glad that we don't see all that with the naked eye ;-) I hate bugs, lol

I love you getting closer and closer to your subject each passing week, Mike. This image is just wonderful and great manual focus too. I would think Bellows comes next and am thinking by Christmas, you will be into microscope photography, and I would love to see you reach there!!!

How you did this with all that stuff on the lens (you had to get REALLY CLOSE) and why the fly let you shoot it is all beyond my comprehension. But WHAT A RESULT!!! A favorite.

I am beyond impressed, Mike; like Usman, I feel privileged to be allowed to share your experimentation. What an amazing photo of this fascinating (if ordinarily disgusting!) creature!

Thanks so much! I really enjoy macro photography but I am finding out that I am not as steady as I used to be. :-) Mike
