...AND I want you to know, I shook taking this photo from the door opening of 3 inches. I was taking NO chances that this baby snake was getting in my front door. OMGosh! YIKES! 8o)

And please, if I identified it incorrectly, please correct what type of snake this is... thanks! 8o)

I like snakes, but I admit finding one unexpectedly at my door would knock me for a loop! Terrific capture especially under duress, Nancy!

If I know the snake it there I am ok with it, but to come home to this would have me running, and I don't run. You did great on this capture Nancy even with shaking hands.

My mom would have just stayed outside all night if she had to until it left! I am not too afraid of snakes if I know they are not poisonous. I had one over the ledge of a door on an old mobile home I rented many years ago. I came home at night, opened the door and felt something cold fall and drape across my arm. I knew right away what it was but had no clue what kind. It was so dark I could not see. I tried to sling it off and I did...right into my hallway! I jumped inside, turned on the light and saw it slither under my bedroom door! I stepped on it with my boot (I rode horses back then, had my own horse) just as it started under my bed. I caught it and threw it out. It was a harmless white oak snake. Then there was the time I stepped on one barefoot out in my yard! :)

Gosh, thank you all so much for commenting on this small snake! I have to tell you, I woke up many times last night...with a feeling of wondering if one was IN my condo! lol
Anyway, the strange thing was...he didn't flicker his tongue at all! We watched from inside thru the window! NO tongue flickering... wonder why? ha
I have a horrible fear of snakes, and now into photography, I am going into bushes etc, that I never thought I would do just due to that fear! A couple months ago I looked out the back door to find a baby snake! Yes, my friend killed it...then we found out it was a Florida Copperhead!!! I stayed inside watching...and NO I didn't get a photo. In all my years of being in FL I have not seen many snakes, but for some reason I am now... YIKES. I am forcing myself to take photos at zoos etc, to help get over the fear.

Thanks again everyone! 8o)

EWWWW! How brave you were! I'd be scared it would get into the house! Are they dangerous??? We don't have snakes here..Thank the Lord..BUT we do have centipeeds, they get in all the time. No one wears shoes in the house, I live in dread of stepping on one! My decorator was here last week ans a huge one came out from under our sofa a bit her!! She was cool about it, I freaked out!:( BUT, what a great capture and I hope it goes away!

Hayden - THANK you for your support. We have a lot of snakes this year, but this is the first one I snapped with the camera. The one at the back door was a Southern Copperhead, and he was beheaded...no photos! And I did NOT go outside! lol

Have a great day..and I am headed to the window to see if he is out there. I think we need to give it a name.... YIKES! 8o) lol

Been there done that. Well about 17 years ago I had snakes in my house. We found at least 9 baby milk snakes that mommy had given birth too somewheres in my kitchen. Can you imagine having one pier out at you next to the refrigerator and wall. Not a pleasant sight. Had a couple in my bathroom under the tub, cat knew they were there, there was one also crawling along the wall in the bathroom. Cat had one in the dining room also. My Dad wouldn't come for the longest time and I didn't blame him. Not the kind of house guest you want. Don't like snakes and never will.

You've got to be kidding me!!!!! This snake was that close to your door handle?!!!!! I would have tried to find another way in! Did it try to get you to eat an apple from the forbidden tree in your garden??? If so, I hope you said, "NO!". A very brave and beautiful capture, my friend! If you don't mind me asking though, how did the Southern Copperhead at your back door get beheaded?! :)

Hi Nancyj: I don't know what I would have done if this creature had been at my door. However I do know that I would not be looking for my camera. That would dawn on me later after the snake was gone. However, you had the presence of mind to take advantage of a great opportunity, and he will probably be back to see you again. (Ha-ha)
It is a great capture, good lighting and detail. Merna
