They're racing!
A Saturday punter studies the form while he walks hurriedly to the TAB to place his bets.

This caffeinated candid was shot from my usual seat at the Crèma Espresso Bar, the greatest coffee shop in my home town of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia on a late autumn morning.

Canon EOS 40D & Canon USM 100-300mm Lens: RAW, Manual settings of f/5.6 @ 1/1000sec, 220mm, ISO 100, Servo mode, Hand held.
Lightroom 2.2 & Photoshop CS3.

Enjoy!

THE MAKING OF 'The Punter':

My Port Macquarie Panthers Camera Club mate Peter and I were enjoying our coffee 'n' cake prior to taking a stroll along the breakwater when I spotted this Saturday morning gambler walking quickly towards us, hardly looking up from his racing form.

I locked onto him with my camera on servo mode, (continuous focus for you non-Canonites) and as son as he was in good light, squeezed the trigger.

I feel all my candids are special moments. This is my first with a gambling theme.

Enjoy!

One of the big mysteries of BP is why the blooming heck haven't your Coffehouse Candids been discovered and celebrated by the BP judges. You should be a winner every single month! Brilliant, as always, Dennis.

  A Big G'day *MICHELLE*1

I kept you a seat at my table at the Crèma just for this occasion.
My sincerest and deepest thanks for your continuing support and great wrap for my on-going candid series.
In answer to your question I can only think of three possible answers:
1. That I am not American,
2. That I am not signed up for any BP courses, and
3. That the BP Judges just don't "get it". 8-(

  Another wonderful candid, Dennis.
This fellows intense expression drew my immediate attention. Next was the way the light is falling illuminating his left side. The DOF is wonderful and certainly seperates him and gives him dimension.
Enjoying this one.

  Ciao *CARLA*!

I kept you a seat at my table at the Crèma just for this occasion.
A gazillion Aussie thanks for your extremely insightful and inspiring feedback on my Saturday punter.
His expression did not change even when he was crossing the road. I hope he had a hat full of winners that day.
