An Aging Mary D Hume
Retired and set aground near the mouth of the Rogue River (Gold Beach, Oregon) in 1978, where she is exposed to strong Pacific tides, corrosive brackish water, a large river with destructive currents, and powerful Pacific Northwest winds. Yet, she is 130 years old this year, has quite a remarkable story, and has earned a place in history. Someday… during a violent Pacific storm, or during river flooding from torrential rainfall and/or rapid snowmelt in the mountains, or during a tsunami… she will just break apart and wash out to sea. And perhaps then… whatever there is beyond her wooden hull and metal fittings… will finally be free.
