End of the Line

BetterPhoto.com Photo Contest Finalist   End of the Line
End of the Line
This section of track, in my hometown is the end of the line for what was once the L&N Railroad. It stops because there is no rail bridge across the Tennessee River. When I was in high school, I lived in another town about 20 miles away. A favorite pass time was to run along beside the middle of the train at night (as it had slowed down through town) and grab the handrail and "hop the train." The area in the photo is where we would get off. Now, I can only think now how dangerous it was, but it seemed like fun at the time. We would wave at cars and other stupid stuff. This all came to a halt, when one night a buddy of mine "popped up" to wave at a car as we passed through an intersection. The car was the local police. Ouch!

  But it was FUN!
Great story and image Danny!
FYI, if the road conditions were right,we used to hide in ditches and when a car would stop at the stop sign , we would sneak out of the ditch, grab onto the bumper, crouch down and foot ski down the road.LOL

This is a super photo! I do have to admit to doing some stuff when I was a kid that makes me wonder what the hell I was thinking when I reflect on it now.

Great use of the lines of the rails here, Danny, and beautiful rich colors. An excellent image and interesting if frightening story.

Love the low perspective of the tracks Danny, it gives them a 3D feel! Of course the treatment of the image is fantastic!
Hey, don't you boys think you are the only ones who did stupid things...we lived on a hill and when it snowed my sisters and I would jump into a very large box at the top of the drive-way and slide down the drive into the street! :-)

And you lived to tell the tale, Danny. A wonderful story -- and great fun. And a beautiful capture and treatment. We all did stupid stuff, but maybe that's what childhood's all about.

You are right Judy.... it is a wonder. I think while most of the class was being voted, this or that, I was voted "most likley to serve time".
