Did you know that the Australian Dingo is facing extinction? It doesn't look real good for them, we in Australia condone the extermination of our top land predator, the dingo, our own "lion king" which holds all things in balance.

Due to its habit of attacking livestock and the vulnerability of sheep, dingoes and other wild dogs are seen as a pest by the sheep industry and the resulting control methods normally run counter with efforts of conserving the Dingo.

I saw this wild red dog and his mate at the Hunter Valley zoo and although in a very pre-carious position managed to get a couple of shots blurring out the wire in the background. Have a great day. ~Pat and Graham

Thank you so much Karen for your kind words. Yes it is so sad that they are facing extinction.

It is a native animal, I used to have a young male dingo "Mallee" but he was kept in a Dingo sanctuary so I would go and see him there and train him.

They decided to get him neutered so I opted out of the adoption as he was literally useless for preserving the breed which was why we adopted him.

Lovely aloof animals as adults, trainable as pups.

Hope you shelter work is going well!

~Pat

Wow, Pat - this really is a gorgeous dingo portrait!! I LOVE his eyes and pose here, and the lighting is just delightful!! :o)

The dingo's plight truly is tenuous at this point in history, isn't it...so why neuter a healthy young male like 'Mallee"?

Thank you so very much for your generous support Carloyn, you are so good for me you know! So full of nice words.

I waited for about four hours for the lighting to get just right, he came up a treat didn't he!!!

Yes the dingo's plight is tenuous, there are many trying to preserve the full blooded dingo, 'Mallee' was such a handsome male. I guess they only keep the best of the breeding stock .
