This is a formal event in botanical gardens around the world, where Lilacs are treasured and celebrated. The Royal Botanical Gardens has a lilac collection in the Arboretum that is know as the largest collection in the world. There are wild species and over 1,600 cultivated varieties, including those developed by Isabella Preston, noted Canadian hybridizer whose great accomplishments included lilacs and lilies in the 1920’s. Who knows what will be left in bloom when the Botanical Garden Lilac Festivals occur this year from mid-May to end of May!

Observation well taken! Same thing has been happening in my area...all the flowers seem to be blooming weeks ahead of normal...This is a beauty, Marilyn, a gorgeous deep pink and I bet the smell is just heavenly - nothing like the heady smell of lilac..enjoy the Festival!
