Two -drum High Lead, Logging-Oregon
This piece of equipment is used to haul logs out of deep canyons by the use of cables suspended in the air. The long boom on top will stand vertical and from it the cables will run into the canyon.

Some cables are used to stabilize the boom and others to bring the logs in.

Sky-car, Logging-Oregon
One of the drum cables runs across the canyon and the other attaches to the sky-car. The sky-car has its own motor to run it out by radio control.

When the sky-car is out over the logs in the canyon, the cable and choker is lowered to the log for hook-up. The log is then raised and pulled to the landing.

The hook-up and removal of the choker is a time to be very careful. The drum operator and choker setter communicate with each other by a radio controlled whistle. A series of beeps (1,2,3..) tells the other what to do. Very loud so everyone knows what is happening.

These photos are from a different time and logging operation. Same team but logging fir trees this time. Photos are scanned Kodak Easy-share photos which my scanner does not like. Colors not good and some rainbow effects in light areas. Think it has something to do with the Kodak process and reflection from the print.

Thank you very much Deb, Tammy, John and Amy! I just wish these photos had been in my computer because they were much better than the scanned ones.

I love the lush greenery you've captured, Denny, and the fact that the machine is deep in the forest. We've been watching some of the logging programs on t.v., and it's amazing what's all involved!
