Lunch at the neighborhood bar

This is one of my favorite kinds of photographs because it isn’t fanciful as such, it’s just, well, real, or, rather, heightened real, because of course when you’re there you wouldn’t see the lens distortion (which I wouldn’t dream of correcting!). This is from a neighborhood bar in Atlanta, near the art studio of the wife of the couple we were visiting (the husband is a professional writer). You can see them at the far end of the bar—Anita and Alan; at the near end is my wife Danielle, and sitting to her left is the owner of the bar. At one time or another, we had three local taverns in our family (one owned by my mother): mill town bars in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. This reminds me of those. I did very little with this photograph: a bit of leveling and a little with levels and mild sharpening. Otherwise what you see is what I got. (BTW: note that this was taken sans flash handheld, with a whopping ISO of 5000!)

You did good with this one.
Reminds me of some of the old bars in Wisconsin and Minesota .

thank you, Dick. It's what I hoped to capture. I love places like this, and this one is an especially appealing one. Once a month a huge group of photographers gather there.

FYI, Dick, if you're ever in Atlanta, this is the Elliott Street Pub & Delii (51 Elliott St. SW).
