It was an interesting fact that someone told me in Guatemala that while women and children might be quite open in photographs, laughing and smiling and being quite themselves, men almost always, when facing a camera, wanted to present themselves quite formally, and so it was in the shots I took.

Wow, what a breathtakingly fabulous portrait, Mitch! I've just been looking at the "masters" of portrait photography this morning--Irving Penn, Richard Avedon, Annie Liebovitz--and this portrait could stand right along with them, imho! I love the close crop, with his hat as a frame. And such tones! Big congrats on your finalist--my fingers are crossed that this one gets first place!
