what a beautiful photo. Excellent capture. Love how crisp and clear it is. The mountains are beautiful and make a nice contrast to the brown fields. Sometimes along the roads that lead nowhere we can pick up some beautiful scenes. Keep up the excellent work.

I really like the golden color of the land, with the stripes it adds nice texture, in contrast to the white mountain peaks. Very well captured!

I like the road and perspective. Good image. In contrast to the effusive comments above, I think the image could certainly use sharper detail in the mountains and a more interesting sky. But, haze is haze. Maybe a morning light shot in the same spot when the atmosphere is clear and the light is more colorful. (Hope you don't mind the gentle constructive criticism! You have been kind enough to offer me the same in the past.) (If you don't want a critique, please let me know and I'll stay silent.)

Hmmm, read Richard's comments and went back for a second look. I kinda' like the hazy sky simply because it does contrast with the more stark details and lends a feeling of distance. I love the "big sky" look that those wide open fields make possible and that are part of the midwest. Looks great to me, Gary!

Gary,

After receiving several harsh messages from people, I'm reminded of the culture of this website. And, I've re-visited your image with fresh eyes, again. Congratulations! Your image is "perfect" in every way. I love the detail and "big sky" look. I like it exactly the way it is.

(btw, please refrain from critiqueing any of my images in the future! And, I'll do the same for you!)

WOW What an image. I see winner Gary. It may be the road to no where but along the way you see so much. The warm fuzzies in the front with the golden grass, the lines of the farmers fields, the patterns, the mountains and then snow. It's wonderful. So you can't say it went no where it's more than most people see in some vacations. Great job!

I really like this image too, Gary! And since you did not yet answer Casey's question above, I think this would be a terrific shot for BetterPhoto's monthly Where in the World quiz.

So please don't give it away, Gary ... let's see if anyone can guess. Email me privately with the location and in a few days we'll see if anyone has guessed it correctly.

Again, an excellent photo, Gary. And, for everyone else, have fun guessing where this road can be found!

It's not bad with the use of color and texures...but for some reason,..I don't go "wow" ethier.. like some people are.. but that's just me and my opinion..
this looks like around Denver Colorado.. where the plains meets the rocky mountain range.. in the middle of the state.

Great photo, could it be along the Rocky Mountain Front in Montana? I love the contrast between the yellows of the wheat stubble, the blues and whites of the mountains, and the grays of the skies. The fence rows add that little extra focal point to make it stand out perfectly!!

I think all the adjectives that could be used have been used to describe your great picture and they are more than well deserved. My guess as to location would be northeastern Colorado.

I love the patterns in the fields of this picture. I could never understand how the farmers can drive their machines in such straight lines to get patterns like these. I looked at your photo gallery and admire your style and theme. I would guess this photo was taken in Oregon.

Excellent guesses, everyone, and thanks so much for taking part in BetterPhoto's Where in the World quiz! And for all of you who said Montana ... well, you are 100% absolutely correct. Specifically, the word from Gary:

Where in the World is the Road to Nowhere?
The mountain range in the background is the Tobacco Roots, and I took this photo just outside of Willow Creek, Montana, which is near Three Forks, Montana. Three Forks was made famous by the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1804-1806. They explored this area extensively and named the three major rivers that form the headwaters of the Missouri River. -Gary O'Dell

Thanks, Gary, for providing the answer and the interesting background information. Again, this is such a wonderful image ... keep up the good work!

Very Cool PIC Gary! I have been two places with scenery such as this, Montana and Alaska. I am agreeing with Melissa, with the plateaus in front of the mountains, it looks more like Montana, than Alaska. Alaska's mountains go straight up, and straight back down - with no warning!
