Hello Kris. I am also an A100 and A700 user. I am still having problems getting the lighting right for portraits. What lighting do you use and which lens? do you use a filter? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Your photos are great Kris.
Cheers!

Thank you for your kind words, Patricia! You do some very incredible work yourself! I have found that my Sony has always given off a reddish hue to all of my photos. I went into the DEC setting and moved my Portrait settings to have less saturation and more contrast. I also ONLY shoot in Manual mode and use the lowest settings possible that all of my lenses can handle. I mostly use a 17-70mm 2.8 zoom lens for my shots, although sometimes I switch to my 50mm 1.8 when I'm looking to really close in on something. I do use a lot of lights in my studio, as well. Two soft boxes, a hair light and a spotlight from above, and two strobes are pretty much the norm in my portraits. I do not use any filters. The rest is done in Photoshop. Thank you for your interest in my work!! Good luck and glad to see another Sony user out there!! Yeah!! If you have any other questions, please ask! Kris

Hi Kris. thank you so very much for all the info. I sure will try using a hair light and spotlight. What do you use in your softboxes? I sure would love to get your results. Have purchased quite a few muslin backdrops and am getting anxious to try them out. Again, thanks for your help and keep shooting those great photos.

I will have to pull out one of the bulbs in my softboxes, but I believe they are 2400 watts. I don't know why I can't remember that one, but I'll get back to yo u with the exact size. I have a very small studio, so I place the boxes fairly close to my subject, too. Otherwise, the studio is very dark and without any other light sources (i.e. sunlight, window light, overhead light). I'm from the Northwestern WI area. Right next to that big, ol' Lake Superior! So... you know that cold that I feel!! Take care! Kris

Thanks Kris. I don't want to put you through all that trouble, but sure appreciate all your info. Just purchased 4 more backdrops and hopefully get to experiment with them this weekend. Cheers, Patricia
