Photography Question

Elizabeth Donley

Newbie to Digital Photography

I am a stay at home mom with 3 children into sports and a 2-year old into everything. I would like to learn everything I can about digital photography so I can take pictures in any situation and know how to master my camera to do this. I am considering buying a Olympus C-740 or C-750 for their optical zoom to capture the sports. I need to know if anyone can direct me to a site for dummies who are new to digital photography and also what suggestions people have for capturing my sons baseball games, my girls basketball games and still be able to chase my 2 year old and get close ups and action shots of her because she never sits still :)

Any advice is appreciated

Thank you

  hello Elizibeth:
My heart goes out to you with all the
responsibilty you have.

i think you have a very good camera
to do what you want. I have the c_700
and have been very pleased with it.

I have not found much I could take with
the camera.

Ask me any question regarding general
photography and I may be able to help
but keeping up with the 2 year old is
another story

  Hi Elizabeth,
I'm also a busy working mom. I work in a school and have become the "unofficial" sports photographer. Basketball, football, wrestling... etc. I recently upgraded to the Fujifilm S5000 and have been very happy with it - especially the 10 x zoom and the burst mode (0.2 seconds)... I'm still learning with it but I just love it!
Keep up the great work!
D.

Thank you everyone :) Bought the FujiFinePix S5000. Loving it so far. Don't listen when the say that the quality isn't great because so far I am loving it. The continuous mode is something I could never live without. And this camera fits like a glove!

sounding repetitive here but I also have a fuji S5000 and just had my first watercolor print done. This is a greal little camera and fantastic for sports action shots. Also, I would highly recommend the course "beginning digital photography" with Susan and Neil Silverman at this site. This course took a few years off my learning. When you learn to freeze, blurr and isolate the action you'll get some very high quality shots.
Just my "two cents" worth. Check out the photos on this site taken with the fuji S5000.
Gary.

Anyone who wants to talk about this camera or share pictures feel free to email me. I am learning so much about photography and this is my first experience trying to use ISO, shutter speed, white balance, etc. SO any advice would be appreciated. Also I love looking at pictures taken with this camera. I constantly come to BetterPhoto and look at updates made to gallery.

Thank you for all replies :)

Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth! I'm so happy you bought the S5000 and are loving it as much as I do!! Good luck with your endeavors! I'm still pretty much using it on Auto - it seems to know most of the time what I want!! Feel free to e-mail me with any questions. But maybe Gary is right when he suggests a course. If you can't afford it try at least Jim's book on beginners guide to photography... I did - even though I've been taking pictures for the past 20 years. It does help!
