More Model Release Questions What about the situation of taking a picture of a running race/marathon. Can I sell that picture without model release, it would be impossible to get model release especially if there were 4 or 5 people in the shot. John

Well, my understanding is this. If someone is participating in a public event, a model release form is not required for publication as part of an article or as news. If the picture is used for sponsorship or product promotion, a model release is absolutely required (or some type of contract). Also, without a model release, be careful about your picture being used in a way that puts the subject in a bad light.
