Most Archival CD-R Discs?
In another topic, we had discussed CD-R media and the expected life of a disc. (Many CD-R's are not archival. The most affordable, and readily available brand is Verbatim DataLifePlus. Estimated life is 100 years, but just an estimate.) An interesting article was just published "What's The Most Archival Cd-R Blank Media For Storing Image Files?" http://www.steves-digicams.com/smp/05092004.html The longest archival rating is for certain gold discs, but these can be almost impossible to find. The article provides a link to a store that sells the top-rated Mitsui Gold discs (estimated life 300 years.) Expensive, of course but probably the best choice for those who are really worried about the life of their CD's. Cheers! Peter Burian

Note: I cannot vouch for any of these retailers. Three other Web stores that sell the Gold CD-R: http://www.inkjetart.com/mitsui/ (This store does have a good reputation) AND http://store.yahoo.com/mediasupplier/brdionsp.html ($89 for 100 discs) AND http://store.yahoo.com/cdrsavings/cd-r-media-mam-a.html ($97. for 100 discs.) Note: I cannot vouch for any of these retailers. I have purchased paper from Inkjet Art and had no complaints at all. Peter Burian
