Photography Question

Aldwin L. Ong

Canon EOS 10D or 300D?

I intend to buy a digital SLR camera. my options thus far have been reduced to Canon EOS 10D and 300D (rebel). I was wondering if it really is worth spending more for the 10D model. I read in some articles that the rebel model does not allow manual focusing. is this true? any more additional points I should really consider? and, any other DSLR camera suggestions for a beginner in digital photography? I'm currently using a manual SLR Nikon FM10. Thank you!

This "Digital Rebel does not allow manual focusing" misconception came up a couple weeks ago http://www.betterphoto.com/forms/qnaDetail.php?threadID=9205&catID=100 ). Where are people getting this? It is, of course, false.

Just as there is no discenable difference in photos taken on the same film and lens whether taken with a Rebel 2000/Elan 7e/EOS 3/EOS 1v, same with the Digital Rebel v. the EOS 10D. They share the same digital image sensor, but the difference in price is due to the better/stronger build of the 10D's body, and its greater flexibility - custom functions, ability to select specific metering and autofocus functions, etc.

Other DSLR options include the newly introduced Nikon D70 (which may be able to use the manual focus lenses you already have for the FM10 - though probably without metering), and Pentax *ist D.

Go for the 10d, skip the Rebel. With the introduction of the new Canons you could pick up a used 10d for about the price of a Rebel and enjoy the additional features.

Julie, try Bwayphoto.com, they seem to have a good reputation. Stay clear from amphotoworld though! I was about to buy the 10D from them last week since their prices are always a few hundred less then their competitors. Luckily, I did a search first and look what I came up with! AM is dispicable!
