A&I Photo Lab

Has anyone had any experience with A&I? I currently am paying around $7 for a local Sam's Club to do my developing/printing and the quality is acceptable. Would the $5 more be worth it to try A&I ? Is the quality much better? How long does the shipping take from East Coast (I live near Baltimore, MD) to West Coast and back via the USPS?

Thanks very much for any input

I sent the film from a wedding to A&I. I got a discount through B&H Photo and Video and liked A&I's low prices on black and white developing and 5"x7" proofs. Unfortunately, they don't have an order form for mail order processing. They just list a bunch of things you should specify in a letter, and the list of information they need is not complete. They held up my order to find out by phone whether I wanted matte or glossy. Even after I told them, it was many days before they shipped my order.

The quality is good, and the price is right, so I'll use them again. This time I'll give all the details: glossy and borderless.

Their website is http://www.aandi.com/

Now I have a question. Does anybody know of a lab on the east coast that does 5"x7" black and white proofs of 36 exposure 35mm rolls for less than $40? Even though shipping generally takes just two or three days from A&I's west coast to my east coast, I worry about the greater chance of loss or damage.

A&I has been very good for me. I don't have any quality labs around me so I do ship my "important" rolls of film across the country. You can pay for faster shipping if you want and you also can pre-buy mailers at a discounted rate. They use FEDEX for shipping or just the usps. I love the choices of borders and prints - although I am just learning what everything is.
Hope that helps.

I use A&I for slide development. The quality is excellent, the cost is cheaper than locally, and I have never had a problem. I Fedex the film 3 day and have them send it back the same way on my account. At 4 rolls or more it is cheaper than my local labs and the quality of the work is better and they have never damaged the film.

I also send medium format negatives (645 prints) to them for processing. Again, I am quite happy with their work.
