Horse Riding Competitions I was approached by a gentleman to pay me to take pictures of his horse during competitions, such as when the horse is jumping, running, and the such. What would be the best way to take these pictures of the horse and rider in action? Any other tips would be appreciated as well.

Look to see what the course is before they start and find a spot to shoot with them coming at you. If it's a covered arena it may not be bright enough to shoot without a flash or a higher speed film. But if you shoot with the horse coming straight at you, you can do it with a shutter speed of 1/250.

The 1/250 was meant if it's a covered arena and if were able to shoot to get that shutter speed. Outdoors uncovered, shouldn't be any problem to shoot much higher. If it is covered and you need a flash, there may be more distance between the rail and the jumps than you may realize. So you may only be able to get a picture on one or two jumps because of flash power. Shoot with the horse coming at you, or pan as it goes across.
