Developing like a professional

My husband and I are trying to get equipment to take photos of our girls in our home. He is very good at taking the pictures but we need backdrops and lighting, etc. We have a fairly nice camera (I guess) Minolta XTsi and this is just for our personal use - we are not looking to start a business or anything. My question is about having the film processed and printed. Where do we get professional-like quality? When we take out pictures, I don't just want to get standard 4X6's like we get from our snapshots at Target. I want the professional type prints like I get when I order a package at a professional photographer. Can anyone help me on this one? Thanks!

The shop I do the processing with has both same day and in-house services. I chose the in-house service because I can talk to the owner and the technician if there's any problem. I did try different shops and process one roll at a time until I am satisfied with this one (although I paid about 50% more than the same day service). I work in a big city so trying different shops is not a problem for me. If you send out film to develop, you can get a copy of the photography magazine (Outdoor Photographer, Popular Photography & Imaging, etc) and there are many professional shops advertised there. You can call them up and try them out one at a time, just like I did. Hope this helps.

Hello, I don't know what kind of film you are using, but if you and your husband try Fuji's NPS color print film rated at iso 160, Fuji's NPH color print film rated at iso 400 you will be much happier with your prints than using general purpose film. These films are made to produce excellent skin tones
Also, the Kodak Vericolor films are equally as good. These films are daylight balanced at 5500k, which means they work great with strobe lighting. As for your lighting may I suggest www.joesphotoauction.com tell them SimonSez94 sent you. I do my own film developing and printing for the very reasons you stated above. I have friends that are very happy with Pro Photo @ www.prophotoimaging.com and from
Linhoff Photo @ www.linhoff.com. I do hope this helps you. James
