Grainy Photographs

I take photos in a gym when my daughter is playing basketball. I use an autofocus Pentax 35mm camera. The film is developed at a 1 hour photo place. Am I doing something wrong ? I use 200 or 400 speed film with flash. Dark and grainy photos are what I end up with. Still or action, it doesn;t matter. Any suggestions ?

Dark and grainy because they are underexposed. Your subjects were probably beyond the useful range of the flash. You need faster film (800-1600) and/or a lens with larger maximum aperture (f/2 or f/2.8). I'm guessing lens was a f/4-5.6 zoom if your Pentax is an SLR, or f/4-f/12 if a point & shoot.
