Photography Question

Fish eye vs. semi fish eye

I want a fish eye lens but after doing some research on lenses I'm more confussed than ever. I have a Minolta Maxxum 300si SLR camera. I want to take some funny photos of my cats faces and landscapes with a fish eye. What is the difference between a semi fish eye and fish eye? I've seen photos taken with a fish eye lens, some are concave while others are convex. Why? Any recomendations on a good lens for me? By the way, I like the convex looking photos much more than the concave ones.

fish eyes have a 180 degree field of view. A semi fish eye is sometimes call a super wide angle, maybe a 120 degree field of view.
The concave and convex look was probably due to the placement of the horizon or a horizontal line in the fram and the tilt of the camera.
There's also a spherical fish eye that makes the image a ball in the center of the frame. Looks like a crystal ball.
