Photography Question

How do I set my camera up to take pictures every 5

How do I sent my camera up to take pictures every 5 seconds?

I know about the self timer, or a cable release but I wanted to know if there was some accessory I could put onto my camera so it would take an automatic picture every 5 seconds or 2 seconds or whatever. I would like one day to be able to set up my camera on a tripod, sit on a stool and take self portraits without holding a cable in my hand, and just take pictures of myself moving naturally. Like a self timer that would continually reset and self time again? Is this possible?

I have a Vivitar 2800N 35 mm camera with included lens.

Thanks,
Serena

The only camera I know of that does this is the Ricoh XR-p with the optional winder. They are usually available on ebay for about $100. There may be other after market items that would do this but it was built into the Ricoh

Does your camera have a remote port which accepts a wireless, or infra-red triggering device?
If it does, this might be an alternative method to achieve what you are hoping to accomplish.

The transmitters are small, and easy to hide in your hand.
You can pose any way you want, and fire at will.
