Dance Recital

Im going to be shooting pictures of my younger sister's dance recital. It will be in a fairly dim auditorium with only the colorful stage lights. I will be using a telephoto lens with a 5.6 fastest speed. Will not be able to use flash or a tripod. My instinct tells me fast film. Something over 1000ISO. Also will be using print film. Any suggestions on film regarding speed and brand/type would be greatly appreciated, as well as any other suggestions. Thank you everyone in advance for your responses.

The film you use doesn't necessarily have to be ISO 1000 or higher ( 1600 -3200 are available). A Kodak Portra 800,Fuji NHG II or NPZ 800 or Konica Centuria 800 are all fine films for the special occasion. The speed is real fast enough sans the use of flash and with color light onstage will get all the graceful moves on 35mm film.

Thank you for the response Buddy.

I'm rethinking using color film and am considering using Black and white C-41 process. Maybe the Kodak or Illford. Since, the ambient lighting won't matter as much (because of the loss of color), I was considering using a flash. Would you agree with this? If so, can you think of a flash powerful enough from 20 or so feet away that is reasonably priced? Thank you very much
