grainy closeups

I have started taking closeups of objects with the MACRO setting on my zoom. I am using 200 film outdoors out of direct sun usally shade and some times they will come out very grainy and others will be great. I am doing this for my mother for her ebay items such as glassware ,pottery and jewlery. Is the problem with what I am doing or could it be the processing? Usally it is the whole roll that is good or bad..

could be the grainy ones are under exposed and the photo place is printing them lighter to try and give a decent image.
the shinyness of the jewelry is most likely the problem. if the light is the same, the settings for the objects that came out great will work for the objects that didn't come out great.
