Photography Question

Mandi Sanuk

printing scanned pics off my photo printer

I have a photo printer by Canon, and I have a scanner that I scan pictures off of my 35 mm camera..How come, when I print pictures, after a month or so, the picture fades to a yellowish color..I am using Canon paper like they say to, and am using a good photo printer...Is it because it is an inkjet printer? Or because the pictures are exposed to sunlight?? What is the best way to print scanned (or digital pictures) and how can I avoid this problem?

Got me perplexed by this one, also intrigued. I have a canon printer too and use canon paper. I haven't run into that problem. I've also used different kinds of canon paper and different brands of paper for fun to see how each one does. I have an i850 printer. What type of paper was it that you were using(photo paper pro, reg.glossy,etc.)?
And are you using canon inks?
It could be sunlight, if they're in direct sunlight that's kind fo intense. Are they in a frame on your wall?

I am using an S820 canon printer..I use the paper they told me to use(photo paper pro)...Will sunlight have that effect? I think 2 pictures I have given to people have been sitting out, unframed. Maybe that is the reason. Hmmm...

I don't know specifically about the Canon printer, but digital prints are notorious for fading under bright light, even with the manufacturer's media and ink. I've got an Epson inkjet printer and printed a picture of some irises in our front yard and put it up at work - no frame or glass. Within six months, the colors had faded significantly. Now after about two years, it is very, very faded. It's best to keep your prints under glass and out of direct sunlight. Some of the newer Epson printers (like the Epson 2200) have inks that - supposedly - will last longer than any of us.

I really like photo paper pro. I've got some pictures that weren't in direct sunlight but they are a few months old(older than six months) that were out in the open and they haven't faded. Could be that sunlight does that.
Think I'll try an experiment and leave a picture in my car and see what happens.
