Salt Air Corrosion Just wondering if anyone has any info on how to protect a camera from Salt Air Corrosion. My Sony 707 recently broke; I sent it in for repair under warranty they now tell me they will not cover the camera b/c it has salt air corrosion. I live in Missouri. I recently bought the Nikon D100 I asked the same question to Nikon. Their response was to buy a waterproof casing/housing. Does anyone use one and if so where did you buy it? How do Coastal people keep their cameras free of Salt Air Corrosion without a protected housing? Thanks in advance for you any info. Sherrie Penny

I think the folks at Sony must have read the wrong canned response under "Why we don't service cameras that aren't all that old". It should have been paragraph 3(b) which discusses corn pollen contamination. Just kidding. I keep my cameras in an army 50-cal ammo can with lots of silica gel. The cans are cheap, readily available, and have a rubber seal. Camera stores will sell you a plastic sealed case for 10 times as much. Mold and fungus may still grow in dark conditions, so take them out and put them in sunlight once in a while, taking care not to let a lens focus the sun into a camera. For short term protection, put the camera in a zip-lock bag maybe with some silica gel.
