How to Shoot Silhouettes Against a Fireplace

If I'm using a "no-frills" digital camera or a "no-frills" 35 mm camera, what type / speed of film and camera should I use to to get the best possible image of the following: a silhouette of a person sitting in front of a roaring fire in a darkened room.
Thanks!

Nice idea. Tough situation. Film and especially digital cannot see that much contrast. All that you'll get is dark black against blown out bright light. Some ambient light and fill flash will be more appealing.
