Photography Question

correct angle to shoot????

Hi,
I need some angle suggestions on a shot I am about to take. I am wondering if I need a wide angle lens, but I don't have one and can't get one now, and don't know much about it. I have a nikon n70, with the 28-30 and a 70-300 macro zoom. My husband is a cotton farmer and I want to put my daughter (age9) in the field in a santa hat and take her pic for our greeting cards this christmas. The cotton will be opened up and the field will be white like "snow". How do I make the best shot with her being the focal point, but getting a good bit of the "snow" in the shot?? I have tried this 'type' of pic before and I always seem to lose her in the scene, or it is too close to see the scene. Thanks for any suggestions.

The key point here is about position and perspective. If you use your wide angle - (the 28mm end of that zoom), and you place your daughter up close to the camera (maybe 10 feet away or less, off to one side a bit), you'll have an image where she's prominently featured, but the background is a 'sea of white'. You'll have to set your aperture very small, to ensure she is focused and the scene is also sharp behind her, if you want it sharp. I'd suggest f16 or f22; if you can focus one third of the way into the scene, and use one of these apertures, you'll have everything sharp. Good Luck!

Brenda, thanks for the info, I love the idea of this pic, it was acctually my hubby's idea, but I wanted to be able to get it right, or at least to be on the right track before shooting. I will try what you said and let you know how it turns out. I am excited about it!
