Photography Question

saving film...

this may be a dumb question, but is there a way to save film for later use once it has been put in the camera? I loaded my n65 with a roll of black and white for a project I was gonna do, and now that is on hold, and for the next film I will be shooting, I would rather have color. I have not taken a picture yet on the b&w. Can it be saved or will I expose the whole roll if I open the camera?
Hope I don't seem to unintelligent about this...thanks

Some cameras have the option of mid-roll rewind that leaves the film leader out so that the film can be easily reloaded later. Unfortunately, the N65 does not have that feature.

Have the camera rewind the film back into the can, then use a film retrieval tool to pull the leader back out for use later. A film retrieval tool can be purchased (fairly inexpensive ~$5) from a camera shop, or a lab/photoprocessor may do it for you.

As a DIY, when you start the film rewind you can try to listen for the film to come off the take-up spool and open the back at that moment to stop the rewind before it's fully in the can.
