SLR Cameras

I know nothing about photography yet. But I am very interested in photography both as an art but also because I love to capture moments of life. I am thinking about buying a Canon EOS ELAN II with EF. How do you feel about this selection. Also if I purchase a camera online, would shipping damage it?

Canon makes some of the world's finest cameras with many revolutionary and exclusive features. I too was looking into the same camera but I bought a Minolta XTsi; only because it was a little easier on the wallet though. The eye controlled focus [of the Canon] is an amazing concept. I have to push a whole lot of buttons in order to select which focus sensor the camera uses. By that time, a fleeting opportunity may have gone by. In nearly all respects both cameras are identical. Believe me, I spent months researching both. If you have the money to spend, go with the Elan II. I can't see anything wrong that could be with the concept of EF. It is a good choice and I would go with it.

To answer your second question, it won't get damaged in shipping, or at least it shouldn't. I ordered my camera from a store in N.Y. and there was nothing wrong with it. Have fun with your camera and experiment with it to get the results that please you.
