effect of salt air Is there any precautions you need to take with camera equipment when doing beach shots. Many years ago my husband lost a video camera to the salt air. He really doesn't want me to take my Digital Slr on our trip because its a $2000 camera.

Salt air near my home caused the early death of a mechanical SLR. Moisture itself is bad enough; salt is a double whammy. If you're just taking the digital SLR on a vacation, put it in a zip-loc bag, taking it out only when photographing. Air out the bag in dry air frequently. The infamous "never-ready" leather case will trap moist air next to the camera and hasten its demise. Actually, heat will do it even more harm. Keep it cool, and never store it in a hot car. Consider buying a cheap(under $100) 35-mm lens only point 'n shoot for tough conditions. The optical quality of the Olympus and Canons are amazing.
