cold light enlarger

Hi to all!
Another question about enlargers.... Someone is offering to sell be a Bessler 23C enlarger, but he said it is a cold light enlarger and not a standard enlarger. What is the difference? I am looking to do black and white and color. Does this make a difference?

Thank you!!!!!
Shannon

  Hi Shannon,

This answer may be a bit late, but I'm fairly new to this website.

I have a 23c enlarger, and am quite satisfied with it. I don't have the cold light, but my understanding is the cold light is superior for doing b&w work, I've read that some really prefer prints that are made with the cold light source.
The other advantage is supposed to be that being 'cold light' meaning that the enlarger won't get as hot. Benefit being your negative won't buckle from heat during exposure or setting up.
If you are looking to do color, you may want to look for an enlarger with a dichro head. Beseler makes one that fits the 23c, so you may add it at a later date.

THsnk you for your answer! It is so cool that there are people put there with the experience that are willing to share it with people who are less experienced! Hopefully some day i'll be there too!
Have a GREAT Day!
