What camera to buy? Which is the best starting SLR camera? Canon Rebel 2000, Nikon N60 or the Minolta SLR?

Rebel 2000. It has depth-of-field preview, which is usually found only on higher-end cameras. Plus, almost all Canon lenses have Ultrasonic Motors (USM) for near silent, fast autofocus. Only a few high-end Nikon lenses have Silent-wave Motors (their version of USM) but those lenses are probably well out of your price range. Canon has USM on everything from their cheapest lenses to their most expensive. All three will perform well, but Canon gives you more.
