Macro help!

I am purchasing a Pentax 50mm 1.4 SMCP FA lens tommorow. I would also like to start playing with macro photography. Can someone fill me in, isn't there some typ of attachemnt that I can buy that can turn my 50mm 1.4 lens into a 100mm 2.8 macro lens? If so can you let me know what its technical name is so that I can price around?

Thank you in advance for any help!!

It is called 'close-up lens'. It's like filters that you screw onto your lens. It usually comes with +2, +4 magnification. I would not say adding a +2 close-up lens to a 50mm f1.4 lens will turn it into 100mm f2.8 (that's 2 stops of light lost) because these lenses should not lose light. Also the focal length of the lens is not the same as 100mm. It only allows you to focus closer. Anyway, you need to focus manually because the depth of field is very narrow. Hope this helps.

The 2x extension tube that you put between your lens and camera body do turn your 50mm f1.4 to 100mm f2.8. It has no lens element in the extension tube.

Close up lenses will give you macro, but won't change focal length or aperture.

2x Teleconverters will change your 50 f/1.4 to 100 f/2.8, but may or may not give you macro (life size image on the film). They do have optical elements.

Extension tubes have no optical elements and allow macro close focusing. They change the effective focal length and aperture, but not uniformily like the teleconverter does.
